Bertram, Bouril, and Girls 4x800m Relay Victorious at Private School Invitational

(Feb 4, 2023) The John Paul Indoor Track team traveled to Maryland to compete in the Private School Invitational on Saturday Feb 4 on the campus of Georgetown Prep.  This meet was highly competitive with some of the top runners from private schools in Virginia/Maryland/DC competing at this Invitational. The highlights of this meet were three come from behind victories by JP athletes and two new school records.  In the boys 500m, Sophomore Nick Bouril sprinted to a victory in the last 50m of the race to win in a time of 1:09.38 to break his own school record for this event.  In the boys 3200m, Junior James Bertram’s late charge and lean at the finish helped him to win by less than 0.04 seconds in a time of 9:46.45 to set a new school record.  In the girls 4x800m relay, Senior Anna Bohli anchored the team of Missy Petras, Mary Lou Moore, Helena Fry, passing her opponent in the final 10m to a first place finish.  Other notable performances were turned in by Senior Kyle Falls who finished second in the boys Triple Jump with a jump of 40 feet 8 inches and second place finishes by the girls 4x400m relay team, the boys 4x400m relay team, and boys 4x800m relays team.  Overall the boys team finished fourth out of 20 schools and the girls team finished sixth out of 26 schools.  Congratulations to the JP Indoor Track team on these great performances.  The team is back in action on Saturday Feb 11 when they will attend the Hoxton Invitational at Episcopal High School.   The JP Indoor Track team traveled to Richmond on Saturday Jan 21 to compete in the St Christopher Indoor Track & Field Invitational.  This meet was highly competitive with some of the top runners in Virginia competing at this Invitational. The highlight of this meet was three new school records set by JP runners.  In the girls 300m dash, Sophomore Chichi Obasi set a new record in a time of 42.58.  In the boys 500m run, Sophomore Nick Bouril set a new record in a time of 1:09.46. In the girls mile run, Senior Sarah Dake set a new record in a time of 5:38.72.  Other personal best performances were turned in at this meet by Missy Petras, Anna Bohli, James Bertram, Matthew Elliott, and Elijah Thompson.  Congratulations to Chichi, Sarah, and Nick on their new school records and to the team on a great weekend of racing. The team is back in action on Thursday January 26 at the EHS Winter Invite. The John Paul Indoor Track team traveled to Episcopal HS on Friday Jan 20 to compete in the Maroon and Black Relays Meet.  The highlight of the meet was the JP Girls team beating 9 other schools to win the meet.  The JP girls were led to this victory by winning the Shot Put and Distance Medley relays and finishing second place in the Sprint Medley, 4x800, 4x200, and 55m dash relays. In the 55m dash, Sophomore Chichi Obasi’s time of 7.59 equaled her school record time for this event. On the boys side, victories in the 4x800, Distance Medley, and Sprint Medley relays helped the team to a second place finish overall, tied with Episcopal HS.  Congratulations to the JP Indoor Track team on a great performance in this meet. Dake and Bertram Medal at CNU High School Showcase

(Sat Jan 7, 2023)  The John Paul Indoor Track Team traveled to Newport News, VA to compete at the CNU High School Showcase meet on the campus of Christopher Newport University. Several team members ran personal and season best performances at this meet.  Two athletes, Freshman Alexander Everson in 500m and Junior Matthew Elliott in the 3200m achieved VISAA state qualifying times.  The highlight of the meet for JP came in the 3200m races.  Senior Sarah Dake’s strong finish over the last 5 laps in the girls race earned her a third place finish.  In the boys 3200m race, Junior James Bertram had a tremendous kick over the last three laps to win the race.  This was James’ second victory in the last two times running this race.  Congratulations on all the fine performances by the JP Indoor track team this past weekend.  The team will travel to Woodberry Forest School on Friday January 13 to complete in the Woodberry Forest mini meet. Bertram Wins 3200m at Grant Holloway Invitational

(Sat Dec 17)  The John Paul the Great track team traveled to Virginia Beach to compete at the Grant Holloway Invitational in the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Saturday December 17.  This facility is home to one of the fastest indoor tracks on the east coast.  Team members achieved several personal best and season best performances at this meet.  Several athletes ran VISAA qualifying times in their respective events to include: Chichi Obasi, Anna Bohli, Camila Barrera-Castro, Sarah Dake, Valentina Barrera, Missy Pertas, Nicholas Bouril, Elijah Thompson, Matthew Elliott, James Betram, Austin Colvin, and Kyle Falls.  The highlight of the meet was Junior James Bertram who won the 3200m in a personal best time.  Congratulations to James and the entire team on a great early season meet.  The team is back in action on January 7th at the CNU Showcase in Newport News.
