The John Paul Boys Cross Country team capped off another successful season with a second place finish at the VISAA Cross Country State Championships this past Thursday at Woodberry Forest School in Orange, VA.  The team was led by Senior James Bertram’s 6th place finish and Juniors Elijah Thompson and Austin Colvin’s 11th and 15th place finishes earning the trio All State Honors.  Sophomore Jonah Berkey (31th) and Senior Cole Bornschein (32nd) rounded out the top 5 scores for the Wolves to help them secure the team as the State Runner-Up.  In the girls race, Senior Isabella Alicea, Sophomore Gianna Albanese, Junior Katrina Carter, Freshman Tegan Bechtel, and Junior Erynn Spiegeler were the top five scorers for the lady wolves who all ran personal best times for this course.  Congratulations to Boys finishing as VISAA State Runner-Up! The John Paul Cross Country team competed at the Virginia Christian Athletic Conference (VCAC) Championships this past Tuesday held at Burke Lake Park with the Boys and Girls Teams both finishing second.  The girls team was led by Junior Missy Petras’ sixth place finish in the girls championship race in a personal best time of 20:50 for the 3 mile course.  Junior Katria Carter (13th), Senior Isabella Alicea (14th), Junior Erynn Spiegeler (16th), Sophomore Gianna Albanese (17th) and Freshman Tegan Bechtel (18th) rounded out the top 6 JP harriers all with personal best times for this course.  In the boys race, personal best performances from Junior Elijah Thompson (2nd), Senior James Betram (4th), Junior Austin Colvin (5th), Sophomore Louis Dobson (9th) and Senior Matthew Elliott (11th) led the team to second place.  Senior Stephen Miller (12th) and Sophomore Jonah Berkey (14th) rounded out the top seven for the boys team.  Those finishing in the top 14 received All Conference honors.  Overall, the team had some great performances at this meet which was the final race for most of the team.  On Thursday Nov 9, the top 10 JP boys and 10 JP girls will be heading to the VISAA State Championships at Woodberry Forest School. The John Paul Cross Country team competed in the Virginia Catholic State Championships yesterday at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton, VA.  The boys team came away victorious by placing their top 5 scores in the top 17 places.  Senior James Bertram’s surge over the last mile of the race led to his first place finish in a time of 16:56 on a tough 5K course.  Juniors Elijah Thompson (4th) and Austin Colvin (8th), Senior Stephen Miller (14th), and Sophomore Louis Dobson (17th) rounded out the top five scores for the Wolves. This is the sixth consecutive Catholic States victory for the boys team.  In the girls race, the JP team finished fifth in a competitive field of teams.  The top five included Juniors Missy Petras, Erynn Spiegler, and Katria Carter, Senior Isabelle Alicea, and Sophomore Gianna Albanese.  In the boys JV race, Ethan Garcia finished first and Matthew Sjurset, Brogan Jordan, Joseph Roberts, Robert Fuller all medaled and in the girls race, Summer Montes and Eilish Jameson medaled for the Wolves.  Congratulations to James Bertram and the boys team on this great achievement and victory. The John Paul Cross Country team traveled to Great Meadows in The Plains, VA  to compete in the Octoberfest Invitational this past weekend.  The early morning rain showers did not dampen the spirit of the Wolves which turned in some personal best performances on this 3 mile course.  In the girls varsity race, the top six girls (Sophomore Gianna Albanese, Senior Isabella Alicea, Juniors Missy Petras, Erynn Spiegeler, and Katrina Carter, and Freshman Tegan Bechtel) ran seasons best times and finished within 31 seconds of each other. In the boys varsity race, Senior James Bertram’s 20th place finish led the team to 7th place overall out of 40 teams.  Juniors Elijah Thompson and Austin Colvin and Seniors Matthew Elliott and Stephen Miller rounded out the top 5 scores. Sophomore Jonah Berkey and Senior Cole Bornschein broke into the top 7 on the team in this race.  In the boys JV races, medal winners included Alexander Everson and Ethan Garcia in the Frosh/Soph JV section and Seniors Thomas Mulhern, Tristan Kilpatrick, and Joseph Starrs in the Jr/Sr JV section.  Congratulations to the Wolves Cross Country team on a great weekend of performances.  Next up for the team is the final VCAC regular season meet on Oct 17 at Leesylvania State Park.  Full results: https://va.milesplit.com/meets/514147-octoberfest-invitational-2023/results ...

  The John Paul Cross Country Team traveled to Burke Lake Park to compete in the Virginia Christian Athletic Conference (VCAC) Meet #2 On Tuesday.  The JP Boys team came away with a victory over Trinity Christian in this second in a series of conference meets.  Leading the boys team were  Senior James Bertram, and Juniors Austin Colvin and Elijah Thompson,who finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th overall. Senior Matthew Elliott’s late charge in the final stretch allowed him to pass 2 runners and finish 6th.  Senior Stephen Miller finished in 9th to round out the top five scores.  In the Girls race, Senior Isabella Alicea and Sophomore Gianna Albanese’s 9th and 11th place finishes paced the JP lady wolves to a 3rd place finish.  Juniors Missy Petras and Katrina Carter and Freshman Tegan Bechtel rounded out the top five scores for the lady harriers.  Congratulations to the JP Cross Country team on this early season success.  The Wolves are back in action this Saturday at the Octoberfest Invitational. The John Paul Cross Country team competed in the 28th Glory Days Grill XC Invitational at Bull Run park this past Saturday.  In the Varsity Boys Seeded race,  Senior James Bertram’s 10th place finish led the team to 3rd place.  Juniors Austin Colvin (28th) and Elijah Thompson (31st), Senior Matthew Elliott (42nd), and Sophomore Louis Dobson (58th) rounded out the top five scorers for the Wolves.  In the boys JV race, Sophomores Jonah Berkey and Jacob Thompson finished first and second to lead the JV boys to a victory.  Other medal winners at this meet included Thomas Mulhern and Robert Fuller in the boys JV race and Matthew Sjurset in the boys freshman race.  Congratulations to the Wolf Harriers on these great performances.  The team will next compete in the VCAC Meet #1 on Tuesday and at the Octoberfest Invitational on Saturday.  Full Results: https://va.milesplit.com/meets/561428-2023-glory-days-grill-invitational-2023/results ...

The John Paul Cross Country team traveled to Woodberry Forest School on Friday to compete in the Woodberry Forest 47th Annual XC Invitational.  This course is the site of this year’s VISAA State Championships.  The Boys Varsity race, the team finished third out of 28 schools and was the first non-public school team.  Senior James Bertram (9th) and Juniors Elijah Thompson (17th) and Austin Colvin (19th) led the Wolves to their highest place ever at this invitational.  Senior Stephen Miller (41th) and Sophomore Louis Dobson (51th) rounded out the top 5 scorers for varsity boys harriers.  On the lady’s side, Juniors Missy Petras and Erynn Spiegeler led the team to a solid performance in the varsity girls race.  In the boys JV race, the Wolves placed their top six runners in the top 20 overall to finish in second place.  Congratulations to the Cross Country team on their fine performance at this Invitational.  Next up, this Saturday the team will compete in the Glory Days Grill Invitational at Bull Run Regional Park. The Saint John Paul the Great Cross Country team hosted and competed in the JP Chaplain Invitational yesterday at Leesylvania State Park.  The boys team won the meet and were led by Junior James Bertram’s first place finish in a time of 16:44 for the 5K race.  Juniors Austin Colvin and Elijah Thompson, Senior Stephen Miller, and Sophomore Alexander Everson rounded out the top 5 scorers for the boys.  In the girls race, senior Isabella Alicea led the lady harriers team to a second place finish.  Juniors Melissa Petras, Erynn Spiegeler, and Katrina Carter  and Sophomore Gianna Albanese were the top 5 scorers for the girls team.  Congratulations to the boys and girls team on a great early season performance.
