
The John Paul Cross Country team competed in the VISAA State Championships yesterday at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, VA. Senior Brady Brennan won the Boys Division 1 race in a time of 15:21 to set a new course record and lead the Boys team to a second place finish overall. Brady became the first ever John Paul runner to become an individual VISAA State Champion in Cross Country. Seniors Elijah Thompson and Austin Colvin finished in 10th and 16th place to earn All State honors. Junior Louis Dobson and Sophomore David Hurley rounded out the top five scores for the boys team. In the girls Division 1 race, Seniors Catherine Stoeter and Erynn Spiegeler finished in 8th and 12th place and Sophomore Alyssa McCoppin in 15th place to lead the girls team to a third place finish, their highest place ever in school history at a VISAA Championships. Catherine, Erynn, and Alyssa were named to the All State Team for their top 20 performances. Sophomore Tegan Bechtel and Junior Gianna Albanese rounded out the top 5 scorers for the girls team. Congratulations to Brady on his State Championship victory and to the Boys and Girls team on their fantastic finish to the season.

The John Paul Cross Country team competed in the Virginia Catholic State Championships yesterday at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton, VA. The boys team came away victorious by placing their top 7 runners in the top 12 places. Senior Brady Brennan led from the start and finished first in a time of 16:22 on the 5K course. Seniors Elijah Thompson (3th) and Austin Colvin (7th), Sophomore David Hurley (8th), and Juniors Jonah Berkey (9th), Louis Dobson (11th), and Jacob Thompson (12th) rounded out the top seven medal winners for the Wolves. This is the seventh consecutive Catholic States victory for the boys team. In the girls race, the JP team finished Runner-up in a competitive field of teams. The team was led by Seniors Erynn Spiegeler and Catherine Stoeter who finished 9th and 10th overall. Sophomore Alyssa McCoppin (18th), Juniors Gianna Albanese (21th) and Reese Almelor (23rd) rounded out the top five scorers for the girls. In the boys JV race, Andrew Bouril finished first, Ryan Meagher third, and Peter Lasseter was eight to medal in this race. Congratulations to Brady Brennan and the boys team on this great achievement and victory and to the girls team on their second place finish. The team will next compete in the VISAA State Championships on November 7.

The John Paul Cross Country team traveled down to North Carolina this past weekend to compete at the Great American XC Festival to compete against some of best teams on the east coast and came home with some great performances. In the Boys Race of Champions, Senior Brady Brennan finished 20th overall in a season best time of 15:20 on the 5k course which is also a new JP school record. Seniors Elijah Thompson and Austin Colvin, Sophomore David Hurley, and Juniors Louis Dobson, Jacob Thompson, and Jonah Berkey all set personal best times at this meet. In the girls red race, Catherine Stoeter finished in 18th place with a personal best time. Senior Erynn Spiegeler and Junior Reese Almelor set PRs as well. Congratulations to Catherine and Brady and the entire team on a successful weekend of racing. The team is back in action this Tuesday with a home meet and opportunity to recognize our seniors.

The John Paul Cross Country team traveled to Burke Lake Park this past Saturday to compete in the Monroe Parker Invitational Cross Country Meet. In the Boys Varsity Race, the Wolf Harriers finished in 5th place overall and were the first non-public school. Leading the boys team to this highest place ever were Seniors Elijah Thompson and Austin Colvin who finished in 25th and 29th place overall. Juniors Louis Dobson and Jacob Thompson and Sophomore David Hurley rounded out the top five scores for the Wolves. In the Girls Varsity Race, the Lady Wolves finished in 19th, an improvement upon last year’s finish, and were led by Senior Catherine Stoeter and Sophomore Alyssa McCoppin who finished in 59th and 78th overall. Juniors Gianna Albanese and Margaret Dake and Senior Virginia Holloway rounded out the top 5 scores for the Lady Wolves. The team had many personal best times for this course and had some strong performances in this early season meet. Next up for the XC team is our first home meet on the season, the JP Chaplain Invite.
